TKP’s integrated health and wellness programs play a critical role in seeing TKP students grow up strong and healthy. Amos Leperes, our Student Health Officer, manages health programs in Kilgoris and ensures every child has the basic health care they need to thrive in school.
Each student receives an annual well-visit, a novel concept for many families in Kilgoris. During these exams, students are assessed for general health, malnutrition, and other areas where intervention may be needed. Several times a year, Amos refers students to other health care providers, including hospitals, for more specialized care.
All preschoolers under the age of five receive a vitamin A supplement twice a year to prevent blindness, and all students receive the deworming medication, Albendazole, four times a year. Completing eye exams, guaranteeing access to government immunization programs, and visiting student homes for follow-up round out the holistic medical program.
These medical interventions combine with clean water, nutrition and health education and enrichment to give TKP students and their families access to resources that will help them flourish.
