2022 Impact Report

Dear TKP Family,

As we share the 2022 Impact Report, the two of us sit down as colleagues, friends, and partners to share the  incredible work you’ve brought to life in Kilgoris, Kenya over the past year. Just a year ago, Greg came on board as  TKP’s new President to lead the tremendous work that has been building over the last 20 years. It’s been a year of  relationship building—with our staff and boards of directors on two continents; with our strategic partners; and with you, our friends and faithful donors.

We couldn’t be prouder of the impact that is unfolding every day thanks to your investment in our team and students. Our 12 schools on six campuses served 1,775 students in 2022 and sent 138 eighth graders to high school in an area where most students don’t have access to the opportunity. TKP's exceptional enrichment programs (scouts, dance, music, and more) and field trips returned at full capacity after pandemic-related holds in 2020 and 2021. And, we continue to invest in our people, campuses, and programs to deliver a holistic, best-in-class education experience to the children of Kilgoris.

Your gifts fueled a record fundraising year for The Kilgoris Project in 2022. That generosity is the foundation for impacting more students in even deeper ways for years to come.

Please read on in this 2022 Impact Report for more highlights and join us in celebrating these accomplishments as a global TKP family.

Asante sana,

Greg Baird

TKP Wins 1st Place at the DIAR Awards!

Congratulations to our amazing Kenyan leaders! The Daima Trust (DIAR Awards) honored TKP earlier this month at their National Diversity and Inclusion Awards in Nairobi. TKP received the 1st place trophy for “Inclusive Deployment of Technology.”

It’s a great honor for TKP to receive recognition for this category. Our work in “Inclusive Deployment of Technology” consists of our integration of e-Readers and computers into daily classroom learning. TKP is bringing inclusivity through technology, gender access, leadership, and more into our team and classroom culture.

A glance at the numbers:

  • TKP was the 1st primary school on the African continent to use e-Readers in 2011

  • 300 e-Readers in use on 4 campuses

  • Current library of 50,000 electronic books

  • 2 dedicated technology teachers for upper primary grades

We celebrate our Kenya-based team’s work and dedication to our students today and everyday.

Join the Back-to-School Challenge!

Hello TKP Family,

It's Back-to-School time! We have kicked off the 9th annual Back-to-School Challenge, and we have an incredible group of partners and friends joining us for our peer-to-peer campaign to raise $150,000 for TKP classrooms!

You just watched aspiring surgeon Sheryl, one of the 1,775 students thriving in TKP schools because of generous supporters like YOU! But we need your help to continue the impact by joining us for this year's Back-to-School Challenge!

Your gift will fund:

  • New Kenyan national curriculum, creative classroom experiences, enrichment programs, and investments in all 6 TKP campuses.

  • Top-notch teachers by providing training, mentoring and professional development; while remaining committed to paying competitive salaries and benefits.

  • The expansion of our Alumni Program by hosting alumni mentoring and support programs--once a TKP student, always a TKP student!

It takes $2,900 to fund a TKP classroom for an entire year. Your $50, $100, or $250 (or more!) donation propels the dreams of 1,775 kids in rural Kenya like Sheryl.

Will you partner with us for the Back-to-School Challenge to bring a safe, transformative classroom experience and more to thriving students?

Choose ONE of two easy ways to give! Visit Back-to-School Challenge and:

  • Click "Donate" and select "Donate to a selected fundraiser" to choose one of our fantastic team leaders who are directly raising funds for the Back-to-School Challenge.

OR

  • Click "Donate" and select "Donate to the team General Fund" to make a gift to the campaign.

We can't do it without your support and generosity! Asante Sana!

First-Timers to Kilgoris: Blog Edition

Last month, our U.S.-based TKP staff visited Kilgoris and returned with full, grateful hearts. We reflect on our trip with immense gratitude for having the opportunity to see YOUR generosity in action. Now let's hear from TKP's newcomers (Greg and Adri) on their Kilgoris experience!

Smiling faces. Kind spirits. Generous souls.

Everything I remembered about Kenyans, I experienced again with my first visit to Kilgoris.

I’ve visited Kenya many times, but this trip was very special. As I stepped into the role as President of TKP, this trip was an opportunity to meet our fantastic Kenyan team, see our incredible students, and experience the amazing work.

Work that is changing lives. Creating futures. Building foundations that will last a lifetime and otherwise never be possible for kids born into challenging situations, at best.

What I saw confirmed to me that we have a model that works! Transformation is happening in the lives of our kids. But it is also happening in the communities in which we are serving.

Not only that, but we have a model that is ripe for growth. And I can’t wait to step into the opportunities ahead.

Of course, I was reminded that we are powered by our incredible supporters – YOU! And my gratitude for your prayers, encouragement, and giving is beyond expression. Thank you!

My first time in Kenya. My first time meeting the core of the TKP family. And yet I felt right at home. I felt welcomed, from the wonderful kids to the fun-loving leadership team and the warm-hearted community of parents. I sensed the love and gratitude for our partnership in every smile, hug, and kind word exchanged.

Like many of us that have visited Kilgoris, we return with an endless list of treasured moments. Here are some that marked me:
- Spending time with our entire team, students, teachers, parents, and community leaders (lots of singing, dancing, and celebrating!)
- Seeing TKP's work and impact firsthand
- Experiencing a wonderful safari trip with my new friend and colleague, Ivine! (We saw a rhino…rare sight!)
- Reading a book with a bright-eyed student named Faith at the Oloilale campus. She echoed every phrase with confidence and joy as I read with her. Faith's eagerness to read and learn is the TKP engrained in her!

The fruit of your generosity is in every detail at TKP, and to think that it started with one powerful seed back in 1999 leaves me in awe. Thank you, TKP family, for your commitment to the thriving Kilgoris community.
